Beauty Goes to Washington
|
The beauty industry gathered recently in Washington,
D.C., to educate 1,000 members of Congress and
their key staffers on issues of concern. The Professional
Beauty Federation’s (PBF)
7th Annual Welcome to our World event,
held in May, showcased the talents of beauty personnel
and gave lawmakers a glimpse into the business
concerns of the industry. “While our volunteers
provide services to demonstrate what they do,
they have the opportunity to talk with our legislators
about important small-business and education issues,”
said Eric Schwartz, PBF president.
The two top issues that were discussed were:
• The Small Business Tax Equalization
and Compliance Act (H.R. 1345/S. 327),
which would permit salon/spa employers to claim
the same 45(b) tip tax credit that restaurant
owners currently claim.
• The Higher Education Reconciliation
Act portion of the Deficit Reduction
Act of 2005, enacted to allow cosmetology students
attending clock-hour institutions to earn Title
IV funds.
