Mid America and
Aveda
The 12th Annual Fredric’s Corporation Mid America
Spa Tour held in Cincinnati in June offered education
and inspiration for everyone from spa owners and estheticians
to front desk staff and massage therapists.
Participants were able to float between two rooms where
guest presenters shared knowledge and information on
a broad range of topics. Dominique Conseil, president
of Aveda, New York City, spoke on the question "Why
Aveda?" Focusing his talk on aspects of the company’s
mission statement, "care, products, responsibility,
environment and beauty," Conseil showed how the
Aveda brand lives up to its claims of providing estheticians
with environmentally ethical products while also giving
back and caring for the world. Conseil also revealed
that the spa segment of Aveda’s business grew
35% last year and the company believes it will continue
its upward course.
In his presentation, Horst Rechelbacher, founder of
Aveda reminded participants that "we are here to
nurture," previewed Aveda’s newest line of
products and supplements called Intelligent Nutrients
and explained how each of the products help to create
an energy balance and sense of well-being. For more

Honors Bestowed
Janet McCormick, a well-known industry author and educator,
received an unexpected award of appreciation from the
Florida Aesthetician Network in recognition of her continuous
support of the esthetic community in that state. Many
members of FAN, the brainchild of Denise R. Fuller,
CEO of International Spa Importing Specialists, and
McCormick, cited the regularity with which McCormick
advises them in their careers as just one of the reasons
they wanted to show their appreciation. Fuller presented
McCormick with a beautiful plaque during the quarterly
meeting of FAN held on the Pompano campus of the Florida
College of Natural Health in May. For more information
